History of the Eastern District of Michigan Bar Association (EDMIBAR)
EDMIBAR was created in 2024 in order to preserve the history, culture, camaraderie, traditions and civility within the Eastern District of Michigan that had been achieved over more than six decades through the dedicated efforts of thousands in our local legal community over the same time period. Since its inception, EDMIBAR has strived to be the most inclusive federally – focused bar association in the country. We welcome all of our District, Magistrate and Bankruptcy judges, attorneys, law students, faculty and business leaders who are interested in elevating both bench and bar in the Eastern District of Michigan.
The creation of EDMIBAR was achieved with the full approval of the National chapter of the Federal Bar Association. The two organizations (EDMIBAR and the local FBA chapter) work together as partner organizations with the goal of serving all practitioners within the Eastern District of Michigan. No practitioner is asked to leave one organization for another. Whereas the FBA EDMI focuses more on national matters, EDMIBAR focuses on the local events, training, and professional support. Some of our programming is done in partnership.
